DroneBlock Simulator

Steps to work the Drone Blocks:

1. In the first lesson it explains the basic steps to moving the Drone. Start by selecting the takeoff block, then select the navigation block, and last select the landing block.

2. The purple arrow shows the direction the drone is facing. The blue arrow shows the direction the drone is flying. In the navigation tab, you can choose the directions the drone will fly and change the distance depending on the amount of room your drone has to fly.

3. To keep the drone flying, you can choose the loop block and add each of your navigations into the block. This allows the drone to repeat the navigation as many times as you set the loop too.

4. If you click on the menu button you are able to look at the mission codes. Select the button to connect to the Tello through Wifi. Once the mission is selected click the launch mission button under the menu tab.

Here is a video of my Drone flying using the code.

Experience:

My experience through this process was an interesting one to say the least. I struggled to figure out how to download the app onto my computer. All the ways to add apps onto your computer does not work on my MacBook. I was able to use the Drone Block Simulator website to create a code and watch my drone fly.

I had fun experimenting with this Drone Block Simulator. It took me a while to create a path for my drone so you are able to fly around the little town. Making sure that I'm moving the right amount forward, or turning at the right spot so you can look at everything around you. I would recommend playing with the simulator when you have lots of time to try different paths and practice with the different blocks. If you are interested in flying a drone, I would recommend practicing with the simulator first to get the hang of how it works.

Questions:

I choose to create the Egyptian coded flight script. The goal of this mission is to follow the great uncle's map. Taking notes for each of the flight paths taken so we know where we have been and where we are going to go. The missions are to help you find ..... Each one of the missions tells you where you need to go and what you need to look for, it is up to you to determine how far you need to go and where you need to turn.

To teach students about the coding scripts involved I would have them tell me what they think coding is and the process to creating a coding script. Once the students understand what it means to code, I can proceed to teach them how it works. I would explain the different programs that are available to use. I would also explain the ways to create an actual code and allow them to practice on their own. Each coding program has different scripts to follow along with, so for each coding the students can play around with the program and learn by experimenting.

To provide a quick and easy coding experience for students and family members, I can create a step by step video explanation so others can follow along as I go. I think the easiest way to teach students about coding is to have them follow along with me. I am a hands on learner and to do assignments like these, it is easier for me to learn by following along. I could create a lesson so the students are able to use the drone simulator along with me as I go step by step showing them how it works. Once they are confident in their coding process, they can venture out to create their own code.

  1. Hi friend! Your blog post looks amazing! I love the way you have it organized! It was really cool watching your video of you flying through Egypt! Looks like a LOT of work! I think your experience demonstrated the ISTE CT 5.1.d which is to "Develop resilience and perseverance when approaching CS and CT learning experiences, build comfort with ambiguity and open-ended problems, and see failure as an opportunity to learn and innovate." Although you had issues getting the app to download, you kept trying! Once you got it fixed, you ended up making your drone do some awesome things! Good job friend! :)

  2. Hi Reese! I really liked how organized and easy to follow your blog post was. I also struggled with learning to fly the drone, because I have never really done anything like that before. I agree with you about the practicing the simulator first, because I feel that will help a lot with the confusion.
