Team Meet #3
Reflection:
Today we went to Metro Elementary with our STaR Hero Journey Team. We were in pod two, and my partner and I met up with our team READ team member. Our lesson plan was set for kindergarten, and we were given fourth graders. We started our lesson by reading our STaR Hero story. Then we showed our students a video of bees pollinating and allowed them to reflect on the video. Once the students were understanding the material, we started our activity. For our activity we made flowers out of tissue paper and pipe cleaners. The students were given a bee cut out that they were to put together at home. Once the students completed the activity, it was time to move to the gym for the kinesiology students to perform their lesson. The whole thing was a success and it went very smooth. This was a fun activity and I am glad we got to do it.
Review Questions:
What are your learning expectations regarding
a) personal growth,
b) civic engagement and
c) academic enhancement?
a) I believe that my learning objectives were achieved. I believe my strengths are leadership and communication. My weakness include open-mindedness. I skills I gained during this event was confidence in teaching a lesson.
b) My learning objective was achieved. My lesson plan was to show the students how bees pollinate. The students watched a video of bees pollinating, and we asked questions to build the students comprehension of the material. Asking questions allows the students to think about what they have learned and reflect on the material.
c) The cricut was used to create the base of the activity and I believe that the objective was achieved. The academic concept was to use the ISTE and CT standards to create a lesson based on the computational thinking skills. We learned how to use technology to create a lesson plan and put that into action at the elementary school.
Develop at least one goal from each respective learning expectation area (personal growth, civic engagement, academic enhancement).
Personal growth: My goal is to work on keeping an open mind when it comes to group projects. For me it is hard to keep a positive outlook on group work because I am very controlling and I want things to go as I planned. So my goal is to work on looking at the positives and keeping an open mind for group projects.
Civic Engagement: My goal is to create lesson plans that are interesting for the students and make them think at a different level than what is normally expected. This works on the students comprehension skills and knowledge of the material.
Academic Enhancement: My goal is to incorporate more tools and technology based learning into my life now and into my future classroom. I believe that it can be very beneficial to not only myself, but to my students as well.
How did your participation in this event contribute to your understanding and implementation of the TAMU-CC Teacher Educator Professional Expectations Policy?
It showed me how important professional practices are. This includes preparation, knowledge, flexibility, advocacy, facilitator, and creativity. All of these domains were tested during this event. My participation included many of these domains, such as preparation and flexibility. I came prepared with all my materials and activity ready to go, and I was flexible when given a grade level I had not planned for.
In what areas of the Policy do you feel you would need to set goals for yourself if involved in future transdisciplinary collaboratives?
I feel that I would need to set goals in the areas of Development as a Professional. Within this domain, I feel that my goal will be set in open-mindedness. As I stated before I would like to work on keeping an open mind toward others I am working with and allow them to work as they do, not as I do.
